Choices, actions, consequences

This is a topic that has been heavy on my heart the last few weeks. It's something that I strongly believe young people need to take a moment to think about.

Choices, and the actions we take because of these choices made, have consequences; consequences that not only affect us, but in many cases affect those around us. Sure, we have all heard this but have we ever really stopped to consider just how true this really is? There are both positive and negative consequences to our decisions and actions. We will find ourselves having benefited from those choices, or being haunted by them. Proverbs 3:21-24 talks about the importance of making sound decisions and the benefits that accompany them.

21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight;
22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.
23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble;
24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
(NIV)

If you make your choices and decisions based on the Word, you will save yourself the pain and confusion that accompanies foolish choices. When we determine to act within the Will and timing of God's plan for our lives, instead of relying on our own desire to act upon the time frame we want, we will save ourselves a tremendous amount of heartache and disappointment- and gain a life of joy and peace.
